Former Senior Policy Advisor to U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) to Add Valuable Experience Negotiating Legislative Solutions in a Divided Washington
Washington, DC – Porterfield, Fettig & Sears, LLC (PFS), a leading bipartisan government relations firm, announced today that Stephen Newton has joined the firm as Vice President. Newton’s policy experience and bipartisan success working on Capitol Hill will provide an immediate positive impact to PFS and its clients.

Mr. Newton most recently served as Senior Policy Advisor and Deputy Legislative Director to Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT). In that capacity, Newton helped draft and pass major legislation such as the CARES Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. He served as a key advisor during the 117th Congress, successfully navigating an evenly split Senate to produce bipartisan accomplishments, ranging from the Chips and Science Act to the NDAA.
Newton also served as a Legislative Assistant to Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) where he led the Senator’s work on the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Development. Earlier in his career, Newton worked in the Office of the Chief Economist for the American Bankers Association, and for the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. A native of Tennessee, Newton received his Bachelor of Science in Finance from Samford University in Birmingham, AL.
