Porterfield started his lobbying career in 2001 after serving as Senator Richard Shelby’s senior advisor on the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. In that role, Porterfield analyzed and reviewed the economic and legal implications of legislative and regulatory measures with leaders of the financial services industry. Porterfield managed Senator Shelby’s financial services legislative agenda in the 104th-106th Congress and played a key role in the development and passage of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999. Porterfield also served as a leading staff advisor for the American Homeownership and Economic Opportunity Act of 2000 and the Financial Regulatory Relief and Economic Efficiency Act of 2000 which were both signed into law by President Clinton.
In addition, Lendell served as Financial Economist to the Senate Banking Committee under Chairmans Alfonse D’Amato (R-NY) 1995-1998 and Phil Gramm (R-TX) 1998-2001. Porterfield previously served as Staff Director for the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Regulatory Relief where he helped manage and guide the Economic Growth and Regulatory Paperwork Reduction Act of 1996 into law.

A native of Tennessee, Porterfield holds a Bachelor of Science in economics from Clemson University and a Master of Arts in economics from George Mason University. He also completed an executive program at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management on credit analysis, equity valuation and financial reporting at Northwestern University. Lendell serves on the Senior Advisory Board of Clemson University’s College of Business.
